What to include in a support email
To help us respond quickly, include as much of the following as you can:
- The email address on your EssayStory account
- A description of what you were trying to do and what happened instead
- The URL of the page where you saw the issue
- The browser and operating system you're using (e.g., "Chrome on Windows 11")
- A screenshot if relevant
Common questions
I see "Unverified app" when I try to sign in with Microsoft or Google. Is it safe?
Yes — EssayStory is a legitimate application. The warning appears because publisher verification with Microsoft and Google is a multi-week review process and we're in the middle of it. The app only requests your name and email (nothing else), which is shown on the consent screen before you proceed. See our Privacy Policy for the full data-handling details.
How do I delete my account and all my data?
Email support@essaystory.com with the subject "Delete my account" from the email address associated with your account. We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days. All essays, versions, profile data, and review history will be permanently removed.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to the Billing page (after signing in) and click "Manage subscription" to open the Stripe Customer Portal, where you can cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep paid features until then. If you need a refund, contact support.
Can I export my essays?
We're building self-serve export into the product. In the meantime, you can request a machine-readable export of your essays (JSON or plain text) by emailing support — we'll deliver it within 7 days.
Are my essays used to train AI?
No. Your essays are never used to train any AI model, ours or any third party's. When you explicitly request a review, the text of that version is sent to Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service strictly to generate your review and is not retained by the model provider for training. Does EssayStory access my Microsoft or Google account data beyond sign-in?
No. We only request your name, email address, and a stable account identifier from Microsoft and Google. We do not request or receive any data from OneDrive, Outlook, Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, or any other service. You can review and revoke our access from your Microsoft account settings or Google account permissions at any time.
I forgot which email I used to sign up. Can you help me recover my account?
Yes — email us with any email addresses you might have used and we'll look them up. If you signed up via Microsoft or Google, we can also identify your account from the provider's account identifier (you don't need to remember a password — EssayStory doesn't use passwords).
Can I change the email address on my account?
Because sign-in is tied to your Microsoft or Google identity, changing the email isn't done in-app. If you need to move your essays from one account to another, email support and we'll handle the migration.
My review failed or got stuck. What should I do?
Try refreshing the page and requesting the review again. Reviews use a 5-minute timeout, so a transient AI provider hiccup is the most common cause. If it consistently fails on the same essay, send us the essay URL (the one in your browser's address bar) and we'll investigate.
I have a feature request.
We'd love to hear it. Email us with as much detail as you'd like — we read every request and use them to prioritize the roadmap.
